French Ligue 1 - Teams & Player Salaries

French Ligue 1 has consolidated their position as one of the top 5 leagues in Europe over the last 20 years. Although there been dominance by a single team for long period of time, such as PSG right now and Olympic Lyon before them. However international exposure and with some clubs in French league bought by international groups have poured money into the league making it much more attractive compared to the 90s. In 2024/25 season, French Ligue 1 2024/25 Wage Bill: Total wage bill of entire French League is around € 710 million. However 30% of it comes only from PSG who has the highest wage bill in France in 2024/25 with them spending around € 220 million on player salaries. PSG has changed their spending habits though, as they have got rid of some of the high profile players slashing their wage bill in 2024 and it will further decrease below €150 million by next season. Right now Achraf Hakimi is the highest paid player in France with salary of around €14 million a year. That kind of an anomly considering league's average salary is only €1.4 million a year.
